Contest Winners Announced June 23 ’14

Two more people in Huntsville will be getting healthier while enjoying the wonderful scenery in town after being named the winners of the Bike Muskoka contest today.

Having just received a new bike and helmet each, the winners Sumin Lee and April McClung are all set to ride their way to work and play.

It’s a great opportunity being awarded to utilize active transportation thanks to Bike Muskoka and Huntsville’s Sustainability Committee.

The contest was open to all residents of Huntsville, kids and adults alike, who wanted to live a healthier lifestyle by riding a bike more often. The contest’s goal is to encourage people to make trips by human-powered means (walking, cycling, skateboarding, etc.).

In her entry, winner April McClung wrote about being able to join her family on their biking adventures. “My son and husband have gone for evening rides on the Fairy Vista trail and I would like to be able to join them. I think of being able to ride to Shoppers Drug Mart for milk instead of taking the car, riding to work or down to the mall” she said.

Sumin who is from South Korea wrote about not being able to have a bike there because “there are so many cars and not many safe place to ride bike when i was young. I know the bike will make my life healthier and bring lots of fun to my family…and it will be my first bike ever in my life!

In addition to the bike and helmet, Sumin and April will also receive an individualized program from The SportLab. The program will focus on strategies to prevent injury, and improve nutrition and sleep, all components of a healthy lifestyle! Follow the winners on the blog at www.bikemuskoka.ca and on the Bike Muskoka Facebook page. The program for the winners runs until the end of September.

The contest organizers want to get more people involved in cycling and will be holding giveaways on Facebook. Monthly summer bike rides around Huntsville will also be announced in order to encourage safe cycling and promote routes cyclists can use on their own.
